We should mention about the upset which took place in Akdeniz, where higher ranked Turk Telekom (8-16) lost to fifteenth ranked Mersin (7-17) in a road game 72-85 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-72. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Anthony Grundy (189-79, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Vincent Grier (195-83, college: Minnesota, agency: SportsTalent) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Five Mersin players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Diamon Simpsons (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) who recorded 10 points and 7 rebounds and power forward KZell Wesson (201-77, college: La Salle) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Turk Telekom's coach Faruk Akagun tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mersin have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Aliaga and Bornova. Turk Telekom lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with 16 games lost. Mersin will face higher ranked Banvit (#3) in Balikesir in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
