There was no surprise when 15th ranked Science City Jena (8-19) was defeated at home by second ranked s Oliver Baskets (20-7) 82-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by s Oliver Baskets. Science City Jena was better in second period 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when s Oliver Baskets won last quarter 23-12. s Oliver Baskets outrebounded Science City Jena 47-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was British-Australian guard Lee Jeka (187-83) who scored 19 points. American guard Timothy Burnette (188-82, college: Tarleton St.) chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Melvin Hall (183-85, college: S.Indiana) who recorded 15 points and 8 rebounds and guard Christian Hoffmann (184-87, agency: Limelight Hoops) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted s Oliver Baskets maintains second place with 20-7 record having six points less than leader B.Muenchen. Loser Science City Jena keeps the fifteenth position with 19 games lost. s Oliver Baskets will face Hannover Tigers (#10) in Hannover in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Science City Jena will play on the road against ETB Wohnbau (#11) in Essen.
