Very important is a road loss of third ranked Balkan (14-11) against fourth ranked Rilski Sportist (12-13) on Friday night. Visiting Balkan was crushed by Rilski Sportist in Samokov 101-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Balkan. It looked good early as Balkan took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Rilski Sportist had a 27-12 second period charge getting the lead and Balkan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-101. Rilski Sportist made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for international swingman Ivan Lilov (196-88) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 5 rebounds. Bosnian-Serbian center Aleksandar Radojevic (220-76, college: Barton County CC) contributed with 8 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks for the winners. The former international power forward Georgi Davidov (205-76) replied with 18 points and 6 rebounds and international center Krum Doychinov (206-86, agency: Interperformances) added 13 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Balkan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rilski Sportist maintains fourth position with 12-13 record. Balkan at the other side keeps the third place with 11 games lost. Rilski Sportist will play against bottom-ranked Chernomorets (#8) in Burgas in the next round. Balkan will play at home against Spartak (#7) in Pleven and hopes to get back on the winning track.
