Spartak Saint Petersburg held off Chevakata in the opener. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-68. Spartak St.Petersburg forced 19 Vologda-Chevakata turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American power forward Jennifer Lacy (191-83, college: Pepperdine) stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and international forward Katerina Keyru (182-88) chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Spartak St.Petersburg's coach Gennadi Schetinin used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American center Jessica Davenport (196-85, college: Ohio St.) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Loree Moore (176-83, college: Tennessee) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds.
