Regular Season Round 25: Balkan - Spartak Pleven 87-81
Date: April 14, 2011
There was no surprise in Botevgrad where 7th ranked Spartak (7-18) was defeated by third ranked Balkan (14-11) 87-81. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Spartak was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Balkan shot 63.6 percent from the field. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Georgi Davidov (205-76) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). American forward Dwayne Morton (200-71, college: Louisville) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international swingman Hrisimir Dimitrov (197-74) answered with 27 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and the former international forward Ilia Stankov (198-76) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Spartak. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Balkan maintains third place with 14-11 record having nine points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Spartak at the other side keeps the seventh position with 18 games lost. Balkan will play against league's second-placed Levski in Sofia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Spartak will play at home against Rilski Sportist (#4) in Samokov and hopes to get back on the winning track.
