Very important is a road loss of third ranked Azovmash (29-18) against fifth ranked Mykolaiv (27-20) on Friday night. Visiting Azovmash was defeated by Mykolaiv in a tough game in Mykolaiv 78-85. It looked good early as Azovmash took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Mykolaiv had a 22-12 second period charge getting the lead and Azovmash was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-85. Mykolaiv players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American center James Hughes (211-83, college: N.Illinois, agency: Basket Law/NM Services) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import guard Justin Love (188-78, college: St.Louis) chipped in 21 points. At the losing side American guard Pierre Pierce (193-83, college: Iowa, agency: Lanshire Group) responded with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and international forward Maksym Pustozvonov (200-87, agency: Beo Basket) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mykolaiv have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 27-20 record. Defending champion Azovmash keeps the third position with 18 games lost. They share it with Hoverla. Mykolaiv will play against DniproAzot (#9) in Dniprodzerzhynsk in the next round. Azovmash will play at home against BC Kyiv (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
