Very expected game when 15th ranked Science City Jena (8-21) was edged at home by eighth ranked Kirchheim Knights (15-14) 82-80 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-14. But Science City Jena won third quarter 27-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Kirchheim Knights won last quarter 26-25. They made 24-of-27 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Kirchheim Knights forced 21 Science City Jena turnovers. Strangely Science City Jena outrebounded Kirchheim Knights 37-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. Science City Jena was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Marcus Smallwood (198-82, college: N.Illinois, agency: Court Side) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and naturalized Serbian guard Radivoj Tomasevic (180-78) chipped in 23 points. American forward Adrian Hill (203-84, college: Rutgers) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Melvin Hall (183-85, college: S.Indiana) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Kirchheim Knights and five Science City Jena players scored in double figures. Kirchheim Knights moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Webmoebel and Crailsheim. Science City Jena lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 21 games lost. Kirchheim Knights will face Hannover Tigers (#12) in Hannover in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Science City Jena will play on the road against Crailsheim Merlins.
