Very expected game in Istanbul where 15th ranked Bornova (7-19) was crushed by fourth ranked Efes Pilsen (19-7) 83-60. The game was mostly controlled by Efes Pilsen. Bornova was better in second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Bornova to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Bornova 38-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. International power forward Kerem Gonlum (208-77) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The former international guard Cenk Akyol (196-87, agency: FCM) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Four Efes Pilsen players scored in double figures. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Banvit. Bornova lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with 19 games lost. Efes Pilsen's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Oyak Renault (#16) in Bursa which should be another easy win for them. Bornova will play at home against Mersin in Akdeniz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
