Regular Season Round 27: Besiktas - Tofas 85-79
Date: April 19, 2011
There was no surprise in Istanbul where 10th ranked Tofas (10-17) was defeated by fifth ranked Besiktas (18-9) 85-79 on Tuesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Tofas trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 25-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-85 at the end of the game. Besiktas made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Marcelus Kemp (196-84, college: Nevada) who scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Australian center Andrew James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 16 points. Five Besiktas players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Can Altintig (195-87) who recorded 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and American guard Jason Rowe (178-78, college: Loyola, MD) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Besiktas maintains fifth place with 18-9 record, which they share with Karsiyaka. Loser Tofas dropped to the ninth position with 17 games lost. Besiktas will face league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tofas will play at home against Olin Edirne (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
