Regular Season Round 26: Levski Sofia - Balkan 113-91

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Sofia. Second ranked Levski faced one of their biggest challengers Balkan. Host Levski (20-6) smashed guests from Botevgrad (14-12) 113-91. It looked good early as Balkan took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Levski had a 28-21 second period charge getting the lead and Balkan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 91-113. Levski shot 61.7 percent from the field and made 27-of-30 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game, while Balkan only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Balkan 39-22 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Levski players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American swingman Aaron Harper (199-81, college: Mississippi, agency: Strategic Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 45 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 17-of-21 shooting from the field). The former international guard Asen Velikov (188-86) contributed with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Levski's coach Konstantin Papazov felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international power forward Georgi Davidov (205-76) replied with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Lubomir Lilov (198-87) added 15 points in the effort for Balkan. Four Levski and five Balkan players scored in double figures. Levski have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 20-6 record having six points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Balkan at the other side keeps the third place with 12 games lost. Levski will play against Rilski Sportist (#4) in Samokov in the next round. Balkan will play at home against the league's leader Lukoil Academik in Sofia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
