Regular Season Round 1: Noerdlingen - Dragons 87-77

There was an upset when bottom-ranked Dragons Rhoendorf (0-0) was defeated on the road by leader Noerdlingen (1-0) 87-77 on Saturday. It was a key game for the top position in Group South. The game was mostly controlled by Noerdlingen. Dragons Rhoendorf was better in fourth quarter 18-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Noerdlingen made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Dragons Rhoendorf was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. At the losing side center Ilja Ickert (201-81) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and Latvian power forward Edmunds Tukiss (200-89) scored 17 points. Noerdlingen keeps a position of Group South leader, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Dragons Rhoendorf still closes the standings with 0 game lost. Noerdlingen will face TSV Troester (#12) in Breitenguessbach in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Dragons Rhoendorf will play at home against the league's leader Oettinger Rockets Gotha (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
