Regular Season Round 2: B.Muenchen - NY Phantoms 90-87
Date: October 8, 2011
A very interesting game took place in Muenchen. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers New Yorker Phantoms (1-1) to twelfth ranked Bayern Muenchen (1-1) 90-87 in the fight for the sixth place. It looked good early as New Yorker Phantoms took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Bayern Muenchen had a 24-15 second period charge getting the lead and New Yorker Phantoms were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-90. 28 personal fouls committed by New Yorker Phantoms helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. Guard Jonathan Wallace (187-86, college: Georgetown, agency: Pro One Sports) notched 25 points to lead the effort and guard Je'Kel Foster (191-83, college: Ohio St., agency: Lanshire Group) supported him with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Even 18 points and 4 assists by guard Stephen Dennis (198-87, college: Kutztown) did not help to save the game for New Yorker Phantoms. Power forward Rich Melzer (203-79, college: Wisc.-RiverFal., agency: Court Side) added 18 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the guests. Five Bayern Muenchen and four New Yorker Phantoms players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Bayern Muenchen left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated New Yorker Phantoms. Bayern Muenchen's next round opponent will be Walter Tigers (#15) in Tuebingen and are hoping to win another game.
