Regular Season Round 3: NY Phantoms - ALBA 68-87

There was a minor upset in Braunschweig where 10th ranked New Yorker Phantoms (1-2) were crushed by thirteenth ranked ALBA Berlin (1-1) 87-68 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by ALBA Berlin. New Yorker Phantoms was better in fourth quarter 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American guard DaShaun Wood (185-85, college: Wright St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. International guard Heiko Schaffartzik (182-84) helped adding 12 points and 6 assists. Four ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Immanuel McElroy (193-80, college: Cincinnati) with 13 points and 4 steals and the other American import center Kyle Visser (211-85, college: Wake Forest) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. ALBA Berlin left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser New Yorker Phantoms dropped to the thirteenth position with two games lost. ALBA Berlin will face Phoenix Hagen (#15) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. New Yorker Phantoms will play against EWE Baskets in Oldenburg.
