Regular Season Round 3: Montijobanda - CDTorres N. 68-66

A very interesting game took place in Montijo. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of bottom-ranked CDTorres N. (0-2) to seventh ranked Montijobanda (2-1) 68-66 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as CDTorres N. took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Montijobanda had a 13-7 second period charge getting the lead and CDTorres N. was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 66-68. Montijobanda dominated on the defensive end, holding CDTorres N. to just 7 points in second quarter. 31 personal fouls committed by CDTorres N. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Ta-Myra Davis (185-87, college: Wright St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds. Forward Sarah Soroka (185-89, college: Daemen) accounted for 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Four Montijobanda players scored in double figures. Montijobanda's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Stephany Neptune (175-87, college: S.Illinois) came up with 22 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Tonya Young (187, college: Vermont) added 22 points respectively for CDTorres N. in the defeat. Montijobanda moved-up to fourth place, which they share with GDESSA. CDTorres N. at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Montijobanda's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Alges on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CDTorres N. will play against Quinta (#3) in Carcavelos and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
