Regular Season Round 1: Ginasio - Terceira 64-69

Date: October 15, 2011
Everything could happen in Figueira da Foz at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Terceira Basket and bottom-ranked Ginasio had identical 0-0 record. But Ginasio was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Angra Heroismo 69-64 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ginasio won third quarter 23-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Terceira Basket won last quarter 22-18. American forward Durrell Nevels (198-86, college: Cent.Arkansas) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Nate Bowie (183-86, college: Cent.Arkansas) chipped in 23 points and 5 assists. At the losing side swingman Pedro Rocha (190-87) responded with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Nigerian forward George Ehiagwina (206-89) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Terceira Basket (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Ginasio still closes the standings with one game lost. Terceira Basket will face Sampaense (#11) in Coimbra in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ginasio will play at home against Lusitania (#3) in Angra.
