There was no surprise when 9th ranked Giessen Pointers (2-4) were outleveled on the road by sixth ranked Dragons Rhoendorf (3-2) 93-70 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Dragons Rhoendorf. Giessen Pointers was better in fourth quarter 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Dragons Rhoendorf dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Giessen Pointers' 30. Dragons Rhoendorf forced 19 Giessen Pointers turnovers. Quite impressive performance for forward Tim Kasper (198-92) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. American forward Earnest Jones (198-85, college: Southern) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American forward Danny Sumner (201-87, college: William & Mary) answered with 20 points and the other American import guard Brian Moten (193-86, college: Bowling Green) added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Giessen Pointers. Five Dragons Rhoendorf and four Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Dragons Rhoendorf. They maintain sixth place in Group South with 3-2 record. Loser Giessen Pointers dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Dragons Rhoendorf will face TSV Troester (#9) in Breitenguessbach in the next round. Giessen Pointers will play at home against Noerdlingen.
