There was an upset when 4th placed SC Rasta Vechta (4-2) was edged at home by tenth ranked Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (3-4) 116-114 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But SC Rasta Vechta won third quarter 24-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where SC Rasta Vechta used huge pressure winning it 23-19 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 32-34. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel forced 24 SC Rasta Vechta turnovers. Strangely SC Rasta Vechta outrebounded Herzoege Wolfenbuettel 59-26 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. SC Rasta Vechta was plagued by 36 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for forward Nils Staebe (201-88) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward Reggie Owens (200-87, college: Azusa Pacific) contributed with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. American forward A.J. Rudowitz (198-88, college: Stonehill) answered with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and guard Flavio Stuckemann (187-85) added 13 points and 9 assists in the effort for SC Rasta Vechta. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel moved-up to ninth place in Group North, which they share with Rist Wedel. Loser SC Rasta Vechta keeps the fourth position with two games lost. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel will face higher ranked Dorsten (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. SC Rasta Vechta will play against Hertener Loewen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
