Regular Season Round 2: Galatasaray - Banvit BK 84-73

Date: October 22, 2011
Rather predictable result when top-ranked Galatasaray (2-0) won against bottom-ranked Banvit BK (0-2) in Istanbul 84-73. The game was mostly controlled by Galatasaray. Banvit BK was better in third quarter 28-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Galatasaray players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Joshua Shipp (196-86, college: UCLA) who scored 22 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The former international guard Tutku Acik (194-80) chipped in 8 points and 7 assists. Galatasaray's coach Oktay Mahmudi used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American-Azerbaijan forward Charles Davis (202-84, college: Alabama) produced 22 points and the former international guard Baris Ermis (194-85) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Galatasaray keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 5 other teams. Banvit BK at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Galatasaray's next round opponent will be Karsiyaka (#8) at home and are hoping to win another game. Banvit BK will play against Hacettepe Univ. in Ankara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
