Regular Season Round 6: Meresta - Perlas-MRU 85-87

A very interesting game took place in Pakruojis. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 16th ranked Meresta (1-5) to eighth ranked Perlas-MRU (3-3) 87-85 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Meresta won third quarter 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for guard Gintautas Vileita (194-75, college: Monmouth) who led his team to a victory with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Zydrunas Stankus (197-78, college: Campbell) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Perlas-MRU players scored in double figures. Perlas-MRU's coach Mindaugas Sakalauskas allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Audrius Maneikis (203-84, college: Motlow St. CC) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Simonas Slivka (193-86) added 20 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Meresta. Perlas-MRU moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Meresta at the other side stay at the bottom position with five games lost. Perlas-MRU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Vilnius Statyba.
