The game in Kaunas supposed to be also quite interesting. 4th placed Nafta Universitetas (4-3) played at the court of sixth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (5-2). Zalgiris-Sabonio smashed Nafta Universitetas 117-76 on Friday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Nafta Universitetas. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game without a history. Zalgiris-Sabonio led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Nafta Universitetas' 40. They outrebounded Nafta Universitetas 36-23 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for forward Vaidas Kariniauskas (198-93) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Forward Tauras Jogela (201-93) helped adding 14 points and 9 rebounds. Zalgiris-Sabonio's coach Saulius Stombergas felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Modestas Kumpys (191-91) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds and forward Viktoras Chodosovskis (200-89) scored 14 points. Five Zalgiris-Sabonio and four Nafta Universitetas players scored in double figures. Zalgiris-Sabonio moved-up to second place, which they share with Radviliskis and Statyba. Loser Nafta Universitetas dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Zalgiris-Sabonio will meet bottom-ranked Meresta (#16) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Nafta Universitetas will play against the league's second-placed Radviliskis (#2) and hope to secure a win.
