Regular Season Round 5: Akhisar Bld - Darussafaka 65-64 OT

Darussafaka (#10) forced the game against Akhisar Bld (#1) into an overtime, but lost by one point 64-65 on Saturday night. Darussafaka was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 18-13 charge of Akhisar Bld, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 5-4. Darussafaka was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Tyrone Nelson (206-85, college: N.Mexico St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Guven Esmer (193-80) chipped in 19 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Guard Can Korkmaz (187-92, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Burak Selen (202-88) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Akhisar Bld (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row, which they share with Genc Telekom. Darussafaka at the other side keeps the tenth position with three games lost. Akhisar Bld will face Balikesir (#13) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Darussafaka will play against Vestel in Manisa.
