Regular Season Round 5: Suduva - Aistes-LSU 80-68

Round 5 in LMKL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Marijampole where host Suduva (2-1) beat league's leader LKKA-Aistes (3-2) 80-68 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of LKKA-Aistes. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 27-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Suduva made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 25 LKKA-Aistes turnovers. Strangely LKKA-Aistes outrebounded Suduva 48-36 including 19 on the offensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by LKKA-Aistes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Ligita Kinkeviciene (173-76) who scored 24 points and 4 assists. Belarusian center Tatsiana Melnikova (190-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Four Suduva players scored in double figures. Forward Kornelija Balciunaite (176-81) produced 9 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Laura Svaryte (190-92) added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Suduva moved-up to fourth place. LKKA-Aistes at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Lemminkainen. They were replaced at the leadership position by VICI-Aistes. LKKA-Aistes will play next round against Ruta Siauliai trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Suduva will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Sirenos in Kaunas.
