Regular Season Round 6: VolinBasket - Koksokh-Stal 79-71

Bottom-ranked Koksokh-Stal (0-4) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their fourth consecutive match to third ranked VolinBasket (5-1) 79-71 on Sunday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Koksokh-Stal won fourth quarter 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. VolinBasket dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Koksokh-Stal's 32. They outrebounded Koksokh-Stal 42-22 including a 14-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Bogdan Karebin (191-78) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Power forward Vadim Reka (206-83) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Four VolinBasket players scored in double figures. VolinBasket's coach Sergei Smityukh allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Pavlo Haylo (182-87) who recorded 19 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Boris Bereziuk (196-87) added 21 points respectively. VolinBasket have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Aviastar. Loser Koksokh-Stal still closes the standings with four games lost. VolinBasket will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Koksokh-Stal will play against BC-93 Pulsar (#6) in Rovno and hopes to get finally their first victory.
