Regular Season Round 3: Levski Sofia - Balkan 81-73

The game between third ranked Balkan (1-2) and fourth ranked Levski Sofia (2-1) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Balkan was defeated by Levski Sofia in a tough game in Sofia 73-81. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-15. But Balkan won third quarter 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Levski Sofia forced 21 Balkan turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Balkan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American center Justin Eller (203-87, college: Sacramento St., agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) who led his team to a victory with 10 points and 8 rebounds. International forward Pavel Ivanov (200-88) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Isiah Martin (203-89, college: Indiana St.) answered with 13 points and 7 rebounds and guard Stanimir Marinov (191-91) added 12 points and 4 assists in the effort for Balkan. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Levski Sofia moved-up to second place, which they share with Cherno More. Balkan at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Levski Sofia is looking forward to face Spartak Pleven (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Balkan will play against Rilski Sportist in Samokov and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
