Regular Season Round 3: Levski - Slavia 82-55

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sofia: Levski (#6) and Slavia (#7). Levski (1-2) crushed visiting Slavia (0-3) by 27 points 82-55. The game was mostly controlled by Levski. Slavia managed to win third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Slavia's 32. They outrebounded Slavia 59-32 including a 40-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Levski looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Juanita Ward (180-86, college: Syracuse, agency: Merit Sports) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 16 rebounds. The former international forward Petya Djambazka (178-77) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Four Levski players scored in double figures. Levski's coach Stefan Mihaylov felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Stanislava Stankova (172-90) came up with 12 points and 7 assists and international center Aleksandra Delcheva (202-87) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Slavia in the defeat. Levski maintains sixth place with 1-2 record. It was Slavia's third loss in a row. They still closes the standings with three games lost. Levski will meet higher ranked Montana 2003 (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Slavia will play against the league's leader Dunav 8806 in Ruse and hopes to get finally their first victory.
