Regular Season Round 9: Wulfen - Herten Lions 64-80

Top ranked BSV Wulfen (6-3) recorded its third loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Hertener Loewen (5-3) 80-64. The guests were ahead by 4 points but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 27-10 run, which allowed them to win the game. Hertener Loewen outrebounded BSV Wulfen 49-31 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. BSV Wulfen was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for power forward Christoph Hackenesch (204-86) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Forward Vincent Kittmann (199-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Five Hertener Loewen players scored in double figures. American guard Steve Briggs (178-85, college: Okla.Wesleyan) answered with 24 points and forward Rouven Haenig (198-86, college: Missouri Valley, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) added 7 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for BSV Wulfen. BSV Wulfen's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Hertener Loewen moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Vechta and Stahnsdorf. Newly promoted BSV Wulfen dropped to the third position with three games lost. Hertener Loewen will play against league's leader Dorsten on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BSV Wulfen will play against SC Rist Wedel and hopes to get back on the winning track.
