Regular Season Round 5: Sakalai - LSU-Baltai 57-81
Date: November 4, 2011
There was no surprise in Vilnius where 9th ranked Sakalai (1-5) was crushed by seventh ranked Baltai Kaunas (2-3) 81-57. The game without a history. Baltai Kaunas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Sakalai's 32. Baltai Kaunas had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (188-89, agency: Alti Sport) nailed 16 points and 6 assists for the winning side and Estonian forward Siim-Sander Vene (203-90) accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Baltai Kaunas players scored in double figures. Forward Arnas Butkevicius (199-92) came up with 12 points and 4 assists and center Paulius Joneliunas (211-84, college: American) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Sakalai in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Baltai Kaunas moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Juventus. Sakalai lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Baltai Kaunas' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Naglis Palangos (#12) in Palanga which should be theoretically another easy game. Sakalai will play on the road against Kedainiai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
