Everything went according to plan when second ranked Alexandria (7-1) beat at home 6th ranked Craiova (5-3) 71-62. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Craiova won third quarter 23-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alexandria dominated on the defensive end, holding Craiova to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They made 24-of-30 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Alexandria forced 22 Craiova turnovers and outrebounded them 48-37 including 17 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by American center Kari Laplante (195-89, college: USC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 19 rebounds and Serbian guard Marija Prlja (163-87) supported her with 23 points and 5 assists. Even 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Brandie Hoskins (175-85) did not help to save the game for Craiova. Her fellow American import power forward El Sara Greer (188, college: Oregon St.) added 7 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Alexandria have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record behind leader Targoviste, which they share with Alba Iulia and Targu Mures. Craiova at the other side keeps the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Timisoara. Alexandria will play against Cluj Napoca (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Craiova will play against Oradea (#13) in Oradea and hopes to get back on the winning track.
