Regular Season Round 5: Tundja Yambol - Lukoil Academik 71-78

NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (5-0) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat fifth ranked Tundja Yambol (2-3) 78-71. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 78-71. Lukoil Academik made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. American guard Brandon Heath (193-84, college: San Diego St.) stepped up and scored 25 points and 4 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and his fellow American import forward Lamont Mack (201-87, college: Charlotte) chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds. Lukoil Academik's coach Jovica Arsic used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center John Ofoegbu (206-84, college: Idaho St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and guard Martin Durchev (200-87) scored 19 points and 4 assists. Four Tundja Yambol players scored in double figures. Lukoil Academik have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Tundja Yambol at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Lukoil Academik are looking forward to face Chernomorets (#7) in Burgas in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Tundja Yambol will play on the road against Balkan in Botevgrad and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
