Regular Season Round 8: Baskent Genclik - Tire Gucu 69-60

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Tire Gucu (2-5) lost to seventeenth ranked Baskent Genclik (2-5) in Ankara 60-69 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-11. But Tire Gucu won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Baskent Genclik had a 36-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. American center Marquise Gray (206-86, college: Michigan St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks. Forward Recai Ozturk (198-82) contributed with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Baskent Genclik players scored in double figures. Forward Altan Cetinkaya (200-82) replied with 16 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Tyrus Boswell (202-78, college: Ky Wesleyan, agency: EM-PA) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Tire Gucu. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Baskent Genclik moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Tire Gucu. Baskent Genclik will face Istanbulspor (#19) on the road in the next round where they are favorite.
