LKL top team - Lietuvos rytas (7-0) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat ninth ranked Pieno Zvaigzdes (1-4) in Pasvalys 85-75. The game was mostly controlled by Lietuvos rytas. Pieno Zvaigzdes managed to win fourth quarter 26-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietuvos rytas made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Lietuvos rytas outrebounded Pieno Zvaigzdes 39-24 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. International center Jonas Valanciunas (210-92) notched a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and international forward Mindaugas Katelynas (205-83, college: Chattanooga) supported him with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Four Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. Lietuvos rytas' coach Aleksandar Dzikic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 26 points by American-Puerto Rican point guard TreVon Hughes (183-87, college: Wisconsin, agency: Edge Sports) did not help to save the game for Pieno Zvaigzdes. Forward Saulius Kulvietis (203-91) added 16 points. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-0 record. Pieno Zvaigzdes lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with four games lost. They share the position with Kedainiai. Lietuvos rytas will meet at home Techasas (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pieno Zvaigzdes will play against Rudupis in Prienai.
