There was an upset when higher ranked Optimum TED (2-2) lost to eleventh ranked Istanbul Universitesi (1-3) in Ankara 85-92 on Sunday. Optimum TED was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Optimum TED was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American guard Tamera Young (188-86, college: JMU) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import guard Roneeka Hodges (180-82, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Gulsah Akkaya (181-77) replied with 28 points and 6 rebounds and American power forward Demya Walker (193-77, college: Virginia) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Optimum TED. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Istanbul Universitesi left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Optimum TED dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. Istanbul Universitesi will face Botas (#9) in Adana in the next round.
