Regular Season Round 6: CAB Madeira - Lusitania 72-65

Undefeated Lusitania (3-1) recorded its first loss in Funchal on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by seventh ranked CAB Madeira (3-3) 72-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lusitania. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. CAB Madeira made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 25 Lusitania turnovers. The best player for the winners was American power forward Shawn Jackson (203-71, college: Johnson C. Smith) who scored 27 points and 5 rebounds. The former international guard Mario Fernandes (176-82, agency: Duran International) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 assists and 7 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Ricky Franklin (185-87, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) who recorded 20 points and his fellow American import center Marcel Momplasir (205-81, college: Rhode Island) added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Four Lusitania players scored in double figures. CAB Madeira moved-up to sixth place. Lusitania at the other side dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. They share it with Ovarense. CAB Madeira are looking forward to face Terceira Basket (#7) in Angra Heroismo in the next round. Lusitania will play on the road against Barreirense CEPSA in Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
