Regular Season Round 7: Ovarense - Sampaense 72-70

The most exciting game of round 7 in the LPB took place in Ovarense. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Sampaense (2-5) to sixth ranked Ovarense (4-1) 72-70 on Saturday evening. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Ovarense forced 21 Sampaense turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Austen Powers (203-87, college: Seattle) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import center Christopher Lee (206-84, college: S.Carolina St.) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Ovarense's coach Mario Leite used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Jorge Sing (192-77) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 assists and forward Joao Balseiro (192-87) added 21 points in the effort for Sampaense. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ovarense moved-up to fourth place. Sampaense at the other side keeps the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Ovarense are looking forward to face league's leader Benfica on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sampaense will play against CAB Madeira (#5) in Funchal and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
