Regular Season Round 6: TED Ankara - Mersin 67-76

Mersin can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Ankara, where they defeated Optimum TED (2-4) 76-67 on Sunday. Optimum TED trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 18-14 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 67-76 at the end of the game. Mersin made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Erin Thorn (178-81, college: BYU) with 15 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Demya Walker (193-77, college: Virginia) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Mersin (1-5) left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with Besiktas and Istanbul Univ. It was Optimum TED's fourth loss in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with four games lost. Mersin will meet at home Istanbul Universitesi (#11) in the next round. Optimum TED will play against Galatasaray in Istanbul and hope to secure a win.
