Regular Season Round 9: Neftochimic - Slavia 106-68

Bottom-ranked Slavia is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their eighth consecutive match to third ranked Neftochimic (6-2) 106-68. The game without a history. Neftochimic led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Slavia's 40. Neftochimic forced 24 Slavia turnovers and outrebounded them 47-27 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Slavia's players. International forward Maria Zhelyazkova (181-86, agency: Promotex) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Ukrainian guard Olga Dubrovina (170-87, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Neftochimic's coach Peter Marinov felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international forward Neli Pasheva (175-81) with 29 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and guard Zornitsa Naydenova (172-89) scored 17 points. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Slavia at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Neftochimic will play against Montana 2003 (#5) on the road in the next round. Slavia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sofia Levski.
