Regular Season Round 8: Chernomorets - Balkan 71-81

The biggest surprise of round 8 was guest Balkan's (#6) road victory over Chernomorets (#7) 81-71 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Balkan. Chernomorets managed to win third quarter 24-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Balkan dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Chernomorets' 28. The best player for the winners was guard Stanimir Marinov (191-91) who scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Emil Binev (198-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Balkan's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Slovenian guard Dejan Dunovic (193-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) produced 23 points and 6 rebounds and the former international forward Atanas Penev (195-85) added 17 points respectively for the hosts. Balkan maintains sixth position with 2-6 record. Chernomorets lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with Spartak Pleven. Balkan are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Spartak Pleven (#8) on the road in the next round. Chernomorets will play against Euroins Cherno More in Varna and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
