There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Turk Telekom (5-3) was outscored by seventh ranked Aliaga (5-3) in Ankara 78-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Aliaga. Turk Telekom was better in second period 14-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aliaga dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Turk Telekom's 30. They outrebounded Turk Telekom 47-36 including a 25-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international forward Umit Sonkol (206-82) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. American guard Ryan Toolson (193-85, college: Utah Valley) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Aliaga players scored in double figures. Aliaga's coach Burak Biyiktay used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Nedim Yucel (203-79) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Muratcan Guler (192-80, agency: 1x1 Sports) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Turk Telekom. Aliaga moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Turk Telekom. Aliaga will face higher ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (#4) in Istanbul in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Turk Telekom will play on the road against Olin Edirne.
