There was no surprise in Homburg where 12th ranked Saar-Pfalz Braves (4-8) were defeated by tenth ranked USC Heidelberg (6-6) 98-81 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by USC Heidelberg. Saar-Pfalz Braves was better in third quarter 32-30. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. USC Heidelberg dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Saar-Pfalz Braves' 36 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. American-Belizean guard Charles Burgess (186-84, college: Texas Tech) stepped up and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and American guard Clint Sargent (193, college: S.Dakota St.) chipped in 22 points. USC Heidelberg's coach Uwe Sauer used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American guard Robert McKiver (191-84, college: Houston) responded with 29 points and forward Robert Cardenas (200-82) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Five USC Heidelberg and four Saar-Pfalz Braves players scored in double figures. USC Heidelberg moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Saar-Pfalz Braves lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with eight games lost. USC Heidelberg will face higher ranked Crailsheim Merlins (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Saar-Pfalz Braves will play against the league's leader Mitteldeutscher BC (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
