Regular Season Round 9: Tofas - Karsiyaka 74-80

There was a small surprise in Bursa where eleventh ranked Karsiyaka (4-5) defeated 9th ranked Tofas (4-5) 80-74 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back getting tie in the second period and winning the second half and won the game by 6 points. Karsiyaka made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game, while Tofas only scored six points from the stripe. Tofas was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Mire Chatman (187-78, college: UTPA, agency: Higher Vision Sports) stepped up and scored 17 points and 9 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and Bosnian guard Goran Ikonic (196-80, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 19 points. The best for the losing side was American swingman Austin Nichols (198-82, college: Humboldt St.) with 21 points and the other American import forward Bradley Buckman (203-84, college: Texas) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Karsiyaka moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Tofas and Mersin. Karsiyaka will face higher ranked Erdemir (#8) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
