A very close game took place in Klaipeda between Neptunas and Sakalai. Sixth ranked Neptunas (5-4) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Sakalai (3-7). Neptunas managed to escape with a 1-point win 96-95 on Friday evening. Sakalai trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 32-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 95-96 at the end of the game. Neptunas made 23-of-25 free shots (92.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Martynas Mazeika (193-85, agency: Limelight Hoops) notched 23 points and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and forward Laurynas Mikalauskas (205-85, college: Virginia) supported him with 24 points. Four Neptunas players scored in double figures. Even 26 points and 6 rebounds by forward Evaldas Baniulis (201-87, college: S.Carolina) did not help to save the game for Sakalai. Swingman Deividas Pukis (194-92, college: High School) added 20 points (made all of his eight free throws) for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Neptunas maintains sixth position with 5-4 record. Loser Sakalai keeps the ninth place with seven games lost. Neptunas will meet Naglis Palangos (#11) in the next round where they are favorite. Sakalai will play against Pieno Zvaigzdes in Pasvalys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
