There was no surprise when 11th ranked Giessen Pointers (2-12) lost on the road to sixth ranked TV 1862 Langen (8-6) 91-81 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-81. TV 1862 Langen outrebounded Giessen Pointers 41-20 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Giessen Pointers' players. Quite impressive performance for American power forward Luke Fitzgerald (202-87, college: Cumberlands, agency: Duran International) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points, 21 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Sebastian Greene (203-84, college: Fordham) contributed with 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Worth to mention Fitzgerald played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Forward Felix Rotaru (200-79) replied with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Derrick Stevens (180-80, college: Colorado St.) added 23 points in the effort for Giessen Pointers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Giessen Pointers' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. TV 1862 Langen maintains sixth position in Group South with 8-6 record. Giessen Pointers lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 12 games lost. TV 1862 Langen will face Hanau (#7) on the road in the next round. Giessen Pointers will play against BG Illertal/Weissenhorn (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
