Regular Season Round 10: Trabzonspor - Tofas 72-78

There was no surprise when 15th ranked Trabzonspor (1-9) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Tofas (5-5) 78-72 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Trabzonspor was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Ronald Steele (187-86, college: Alabama) fired 16 points and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. The former international guard Can Altintig (195-87) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Tofas players scored in double figures. Tofas' coach Nihat Izic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Elton Brown (206-83, college: Virginia) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Jonathan Gibson (182-87, college: N.Mexico St.) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Tofas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Karsiyaka and Erdemir. Trabzonspor lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with nine games lost. Tofas will face Antalya (#14) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Trabzonspor will play against Karsiyaka.
