Regular Season Round 8: Maia Basket - Sangalhos 62-82

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Sangalhos (5-3) smashed on the road 11th ranked Maia Basket (2-6) 82-62. The game was mostly controlled by Sangalhos. Maia Basket was better in third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-30 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Maia Basket outrebounded Sangalhos 35-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by Maia Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by swingman Joao Carmo (183-85) who scored that evening 16 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and Miguel Carmo supported him with 13 points. Four Sangalhos players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 5 rebounds by guard Joaquim Oliveira (178-81) did not help to save the game for Maia Basket. Forward Joao Diamantino (201-85) added 7 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sangalhos moved-up to fourth place. Maia Basket at the other side dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Sangalhos' next round opponent will be Oliveirense (#6). Maia Basket will play against Angrabasket (#5).
