LPB top team - Benfica (10-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Terceira Basket (2-7) in Angra Heroismo 101-73. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Terceira Basket was better in fourth quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Benfica dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Terceira Basket's 28 and made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Terceira Basket 56-27 including a 39-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Benfica players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American guard Ted Scott (188-85, college: W.Virginia St., agency: Hart Sports Mngm) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Elvis Evora (205-78) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American guard Nate Bowie (183-86, college: Cent.Arkansas) responded with 27 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward Durrell Nevels (198-86, college: Cent.Arkansas) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Five Benfica and four Terceira Basket players scored in double figures. Benfica have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-0 record. Terceira Basket lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth place with seven games lost. Benfica will play against Lusitania (#5) in Angra in the next round. Terceira Basket will play at home against Vitoria SC (#11) in Guimaraes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
