Regular Season Round 9: Mersin - Botas 78-71

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Botas (4-5) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Mersin (4-5) 78-71 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Botas won third quarter 21-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mersin made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Mersin especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) who scored 29 points. Forward Christi Thomas (191-82, college: Georgia) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Courtney Paris (193-87, college: Oklahoma) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds and forward Monica Wright (180-88, college: Virginia, agency: LBM Management) added 22 points respectively. Mersin have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Botas. Mersin will face league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
