Regular Season Round 15: Iasi - Timisoara 53-78
Date: December 21, 2011
Very expected game when 14th ranked Iasi (2-13) was smashed at home by eighth ranked Timisoara (9-5) 78-53 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Timisoara. Iasi managed to win third quarter 22-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Iasi 36-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for Serbian guard Jovana Vukoje (174-86) who led the winners and scored 24 points and 6 steals. Senegalese center Fatou Kane (196-85) accounted for 8 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side. Timisoara's coach Ljubomir Kolarevic felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Gabriela Necula (187-91) came up with 17 points and American center Ceciley Johnson (188, college: W.Texas A&M) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Iasi in the defeat. Timisoara moved-up to seventh place. Loser Iasi keeps the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Oradea. Timisoara will meet Olimpia (#13) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Iasi will play against the league's second-placed Targu Mures where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
