Regular Season Round 11: Rilski Sportist - Balkan 77-75

Sixth-ranked Balkan (3-8) was very close to win a game against third ranked Rilski Sportist (7-4) in Samokov on Friday. Rilski Sportist managed to secure only two-point victory 77-75. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 23-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Swingman Hristo Zahariev (200-90) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Serbian guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) contributed with 18 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Power forward Dimitar Marintchechki (201-90) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and guard Stanimir Marinov (191-91) added 16 points and 5 steals in the effort for Balkan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Balkan's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rilski Sportist maintains third place with 7-4 record having just two points less than leader Lukoil Academik. Balkan at the other side keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Rilski Sportist are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Spartak Pleven (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Balkan will play against Euroins Cherno More in Varna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
