There was a minor upset in Frankivsk where 7th ranked Hoverla (12-7) was defeated by ninth ranked BC Kyiv (9-9) 79-70 on Friday. Hoverla trailed by 19 points at halftime and as many as 21 after three quarters before a 24-12 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 70-79 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was guard Vladyslav Podolyan (196-86, agency: New Trend Agency) who scored 17 points and 4 assists. American forward Vernon Goodridge (206-84, college: La Salle) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Goodridge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five BC Kyiv players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Marcus Walker (186-86, college: Colorado St., agency: Hart Sports Mngm) who recorded 18 points and his fellow American import swingman Kevin Tiggs (196-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. BC Kyiv maintains ninth position with 9-9 record. Loser Hoverla dropped to the fourth place with seven games lost. BC Kyiv will face higher ranked BC Odessa (#6) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hoverla will play against the league's leader BC Donetsk where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
