Regular Season Round 11: Lietuvos rytas - Sakalai 106-65

LKL top team - Lietuvos rytas (11-1) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Sakalai (3-9) in Vilnius 106-65. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 19-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 106-65. Lietuvos rytas dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Sakalai's 32 and made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Lietuvos rytas forced 24 Sakalai turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Sakalai was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for international center Jonas Valanciunas (210-92) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). The former international guard Renaldas Seibutis (196-85) helped adding 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. Lietuvos rytas' coach Aleksandar Dzikic felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Laurynas Samenas (192-88) responded with 20 points and 5 assists and forward Evaldas Baniulis (201-87, college: S.Carolina) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Lietuvos rytas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-1 record. Sakalai lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with nine games lost. Lietuvos rytas will face league's second-placed Zalgiris in Kaunas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sakalai will play on the road against Baltai Kaunas (#6).
